Visit Koelenhof Wine Cellar
Koelenhof Wine Cellar is a working wine farm on the R304, just off the N1 on the way into Stellenbosch. We have been making wine here since 1941 — for people who want a proper Stellenbosch tasting without the estate pomp, and wines worth taking a few bottles home.

Wine tastings in Stellenbosch
Every tasting is hosted in our tasting room or on the lawn, and every one is a sit-down affair — nobody is going to rush you through five wines in ten minutes.
- Standard wine tasting. Choose five Koelenhof wines from the range: white, red or rosé.
- Chocolate and wine pairing. Five handmade Belgian chocolates paired with five wines. Advanced booking recommended.
- Sorbet and wine pairing. Our most popular pairing: six wines with three sorbets and three gelatos.
- Cellar tour and standard tasting. A walk through the cellar followed by the standard tasting. Tours run at 11:00 and 14:00, Monday to Friday, and must be booked 24 hours in advance.
- Bubbly and treat pairing. Four sparkling wines, each with a sweet treat.
- Kids' grape juice tasting. Two or four glasses of grape juice with treats, plus a themed activity sheet to keep them busy.
Current tasting prices and seasonal pairings are listed on the wine tasting page.
Book a tasting — booking is recommended, especially on weekends and public holidays.
Getting here

- Stellenbosch town centre: 13 km, about 13 minutes
- Cape Town CBD: 40 km, about 30 minutes

More than a tasting
If you have longer than an hour, there is more on the farm:
- Picnic baskets on the lawn, with two baskets to choose from.
- Roosterkoek from the braai, served with jam, cheese, biltong spread or salami.
- The full menu, if you are staying for lunch.
- Kids' parties at the play park.
- The KOEL-tainer, for a more relaxed sit-down.
Good to know
- Sunday is closed. Saturday and public holidays close at 16:00.
- Larger groups should book ahead so we can set the tables up properly — send us a message.
- Children are welcome, and the kids' grape juice tasting means they get their own flight rather than stealing yours.
- No pets. Koelenhof is not pet friendly, and pets are not allowed on the farm.
- Every wine we pour is available to buy on the day.
Book your tasting at Koelenhof, or get in touch if you have a question we have not answered.
